The iPod still hasn't presented itself as a serious gaming platform, but it has always had games on it, and we love playing games with it, yet most games for it have been mediocre at best. But while the latest iPod game won't necessarily change all that, it may be the best of the batch so far.

Last week, Apple sent out an iTunes update to allow compatibility with Phase, a new iPod game made by Harmonix, the makers of the Guitar Hero franchise. Gameplay is as similar as an iPod will allow, and you get to use your own music, a major advantage over other games in the genre. iPhone and iPod Touch owners still remain out of the loop

While this won't likely revolutionize the iPod gaming industry, it might make those subway commutes go by a bit quicker.
