Toy Fair 2008: TMX Elmo is so last year: New Elmo Announced

Fisher-Price has announced that a new plush Elmo will be announced tomorrow morning at the New York Toy Fair Mattel/Fisher-Price Gallery.

Not just another in the long line of captivating Elmo products, this Elmo elevates feature plush to a new dimension of realistic, interactive play that makes you laugh, of course, but also does so much more.

With all the new features of TMX Elmo compared to the previous incarnation, what can we expect from the new one? A few guesses:

  • PC integration--it's all the rage right now. Play with Elmo on your PC
  • Downloadable emotions, actions, or phrases: some free, some gestures available for $1-3 like a ringtone
  • Go to Sesame Street Online with Elmo, creating your own Muppet. Elmo will sit next to you and talk to you while you play.

Now, these are just guesses, and I'm anxious to see what they have up their puppeteer's sleeve, but I'll also guess that, if it has PC connectivity,

  1. It won't support the Mac.
  2. It'll use Wi-Fi instead of USB for safety reasons.

But we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out. Anyone have any guesses or a wishlist?

Elmo Live

OK, I was nowhere close, but I still contend that my suggestion would be better. That said, the new Elmo Live looks pretty cool. If you don't want to read the entire article, here's the quote:

Elmo Live – Is it Live or is it Elmo Live? In this truly life-like creation, for the first time ever, Elmo seems to actually be speaking as his mouth opens and closes just like the real Muppet, Elmo, from Sesame Street®. His mannerisms are right on target as his head bobbles back and forth as he speaks. He waves his arms, sits and stands, even crosses his legs all the while telling stories and jokes, singing songs and playing games. Children can activate the magic with a tickle or a squeeze of Elmo’s foot, tummy, back or nose.

So in other words, it's an Elmo that does body language and talking. Just think how much cooler it would be if it could download additional gestures and phrases. Just sayin'.
