Review: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for Wii
It's time to get Back in the Saddle with another edition of the Amazing Guitar Hero game, specifically for the Wii. Because the collection of songs in Guitar Hero III Ain't Enough, Red Octane has released a special Aerosmith edition that we hope will be the first in a series of band-centric Guitar Hero releases. So let's Get a Grip on the guitar and open Pandora's Box. If you've played Guitar Hero III for the Wii, for the most part, this game is the Same Old Song and Dance. Put your Wiimote into the guitar (requiring removing the jacket, which leaves me slightly Jaded) and Let the Music Do the Talking. The Wiimote-in-the-guitar Combination does have the advantage of giving you a wireless guitar without having to use extra batteries, which is a definite plus, especially compared to Rock Band's 3-battery guitar (most rechargers require batteries in even numbers). Before you get into Aerosmith songs, you'll need to work through the Career mode to unlock them. You begin by playing some other great rock songs from artists like The Clash and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts as opening bands, generally running 2 opening songs to 2 Aerosmith songs. After completing each level, you get to watch The Movie of the band members describing the next location and why it gives them a Sweet Emotion. Once the songs are unlocked, you can find them in the Quickplay section. Find the song, and Just Push Play. The game features the same character building and unlockables of previous versions, except that you can eventually unlock the Aerosmith band members and more Aerosmith songs. The graphics are not Drop Dead Gorgeous, but about average for Wii graphics, and the sound is decent, offering No Surprise good or bad. If your Last Child is about 10 or older, the challenge will be just right with different difficulty levels for different abilities. The game is rated "T" for lyrics, but since it's a guitar game and not a singing game, the vocals are quiet enough that they don't get Under My Skin. If you have/get another Wii Guitar Hero guitar, you can Line Up to play multiplayer in a few different mode, both competitive and co-op, or you can Draw the Line and challenge Somebody via online play, either a friend or a stranger (no conversation, so safe for kids) and see whether you have What It Takes. So coming Full Circle, if you're a Guitar Hero fan and looking for something completely new here, Dream On, but if you like Aerosmith and the other included bands, this game Won't Let You Down. |
