Review: HEXBUG Micro Robotic Creatures
Most of the time, if I would see a big bug crawling in the house my kids would run away from it, not toward it. Until the HEXBUGs invaded the house. Now they want to play with bugs. HEXBUGs are small robotic bugs. They are 2.25 inches long, 1.25 inches wide and 2.25 inches high. They move forward until the wire feelers bump into anything. Then they will back up in a half circle and move forward in the new direction that they're facing. You can also make them change direction by making a loud noise, like clapping your hands or banging on the table. They don't move well on thick carpet, but did work well on thinner carpet and the table. I've found that most small, movable objects don't work well on thick carpet, though. The feet have a rubbery coating on them which give them the traction they need to move. The HEXBUGs come in 5 different colors: orange (Alpha), green (Bravo), blue (Charlie), yellow (Delta), and pink (Echo). The colored legs and top/shell of the bugs are made of transparent plastic, and you can see the circuitry through the shell. There have a switch in the back for turning them off and on. The bugs come with 2 button cell batteries installed. There is a removable battery cover so they can be replaced when needed, which is nice so the bug isn't useless when the batteries die. These are actually very entertaining to watch, especially since you can control where they go just by touching the feelers or by making a loud noise. |
